It’s always a joy to be entrusted with the pleasure of capturing a Mum-to-be’s bump. On this occasion I was doing that very thing for mum of 2, and soon to be 3, Kat. Kat came in for a consultation the week before her session so she could talk to me about her photo shoot and show me the styles of maternity photography that she loved. It’s not essential for you to have a pre-consultation, but it’s available should you wish to come in and chat about what you hope to achieve from your sitting. During a session it is my wish that you should get a beautiful record of this very special time in your life so the more I know about what you like and dislike and are comfortable with, the better.
At Kat’s consultation she showed me a number of images she had seen on pinterest and I quickly got an idea for the style she liked. I was then able to make some suggestions for things we could do. Kat explained that this was her last baby so she was really keen to capture the moment and thats exactly what we went on to do. Kat would be 36 weeks at the time of the shoot. The ideal time is anywhere between 30 and 36 weeks but we always advise that you wait until you have a lovely big bump to really make the most of your maternity photography session.
Kat had also booked her Newborn photography session with us so I also had that in mind when suggesting colours and fabrics. Kat wanted the pictures to compliment each other should she decide to display them together. We were all set so it was lights, camera, action!
Kat bought her youngest daughter, Poppy, to the photo shoot and she was full of fun. Poppy played with our toys in the studio while her mummy and I got to work. What resulted was a series of images that showed the emotional aspect of this special time. Kat was the perfect subject and she was simply glowing. Pregnancy certainly suits her and she has a beautiful bump.
It’s a good job we did the session when we did, as just 7 days later her baby was born. A healthy baby boy who I am really excited to meet on Thursday. I just can’t wait to take his pictures and know that both sets are going to provide Kat and her husband with some truly stunning momentos to look back on.
